Lives and works in Amsterdam, NL
Trees Heil (1993, The Netherlands) makes photos, performances and short videos. The works show temporarily constructed situations in which spaces, people and their behaviors are given a new poetic context. By using materials such as plaster, hessian, hair and paint, the people who are photographed are transformed into different shapes. Heil examines the fluidity of man and themes such as identity and intimacy are explored.
The works arise from the desire to meet someone, to do something, to see something happening. The people being photographed, mostly women, represent a feeling, a thought or an idea. Her intuitive and personal working process is expressed in a magical-realistic, playful visual language.
Trees Heil is captivated by the thin line between imagination and reality, by the connection between the earthly and the spiritual and forms of non-verbal communication. Within the works, ways are explored to make contact with our inner world: our emotional and physical condition, and the outer world: eachother, non-human animals and nature.
